FACULTY MENTOR GUIDELINES
Thank you for your participation in the Internship Program! The procedures for faculty mentors are outlined below.
Faculty Mentor Checklist: For faculty mentors to keep track of completed student assignments
Faculty Mentor Verification Form
| |
 |
Students will complete several assignments as part of their internship. These assignments are designed to enhance their learning experience. They will be emailing you (or provide you a copy) of the following: |
| |
- A two-page outline of their goals and learning objectives for the internship.
- A weekly journal of their internship observations and learning. These journal entries do not require feedback from you, but you are free to read them and comment if you want to. Students are told to email you these entries no later than Friday of the week discussed.
|
 |
Faculty Mentor Update Meeting Form: Must be signed by faculty mentor and returned to the Internship office by the student. |
| |
- Students will set up a meeting with you half way through their internship (weeks 6 through 9). It is their responsibility to schedule the appointment with you in order to receive credit for the internship.
- At this meeting, students will bring in a 2-3 page report on a project/activity they were involved in at their internship (including any supporting material). This is really a chance for you to interact with the student and determine if they are able to relate their coursework and knowledge to their internship experience, as well as give them advice, etc. on how to proceed in the internship. If there appears to be any major problems with the internship, please notify the Internship Office.
|
 |
Internship Final Paper Evaluation Form: Used by faculty mentor to evaluate and grade student’s final paper. |
| |
- A final report will be turned in to you NO LATER THAN the week before final exams. It should discuss the student’s future goals (personal and career) and how their internship experience will or will not be useful in these plans. This report must be 3 to 5 pages in length (typed, double-spaced). Please sign the report as prove that you have read and reviewed student’s final report. It is students responsibility to hand deliver the signed report to the Internship Office.
|
 |
Faculty Mentor Grade Assignment Form: Used by faculty mentor to assign the student intern's final grade. |
| |
Note: you as a faculty mentor can require the student to meet more often with you if you want or to turn in assignments in paper form rather than email if you prefer. |
 |
Thank you for becoming a faculty mentor!
